The following is a list of
frequently asked questions:
What
is a radiologist?
A radiologist is a medical
doctor specially trained to
interpret x-rays and other
imaging examinations. They
help other physicians detect
and diagnose injuries and
diseases. The radiologist
is a consultant to whom patients
are referred to by other physicians,
most often a primary care
physician. Radiologists do
not order imaging tests directly,
but are asked to perform these
tests on behalf of the referring
physician. Depending upon
the nature of the examination,
it may be performed by the
radiologist, by a qualified
technologist, or by a team
of radiologists and technologists,
sometimes with the assistance
of a nurse.
Sometimes radiologists also
assist in the treatment of
disease. For example, interventional
radiologists can treat a wide
variety of conditions that
once required surgery.
Will
Radiology Associates file
secondary claims as well as
primary ones?
Yes, we will.
Why
do I receive an additional
bill for radiology services?
Your bill covers two components:
a technical fee and a professional
fee.
The technical fee is billed
by Presbyterian to cover the
use of equipment, film, supplies
and technical personnel.
The professional fee covers
the professional service,
or the reading of the x-ray.
Radiology Associates is contracted
with Presbyterian Healthcare
Service to provide professional
services; therefore, as an
independent physician group,
radiologists bill separately
for his or her services.
